Compliance & Regulation Manager Lorenzo Ferrero explains his job

I am from Italy and have been working in my adopted country, France, for 18 years in the field of research, innovation, technical marketing and regulations. 

I discovered the job of compliance and regulation manager when I created this post at the Lapeyre joinery company.

I subsequently joined the Fédération des Industries Mécaniques (French Federation of Mechanical Industries), to extend the scope of my role to lobbying, particularly to promote the interests of the French mechanical industry to the French national administration and the European Commission.

I discovered the Haulotte Group when I was working at the FIM, and the vision, dynamism and values of this company appealed to me.

I therefore joined the company in Autumn 2020 with the role of bringing safe machines to market and representing Haulotte at the European Committee for Standardization.

Backed by a motivated, competent team, I am responsible for ensuring the machines’ technical files comply with the regulations and standards currently in force in the countries where Haulotte sells its products.

In this context we:

  • Analyze new projects and assist the project teams in the design of safe machines
  • Promote the application of the standards, for example NF EN 12100 concerning risk analysis required in Europe by the Machines Directive and in the USA and Australia by the respective Ministries of Labor.
  • Ensure that no modifications impact machine compliance by monitoring them throughout their service life.
  • Guarantee approvals, their renewal and end-of-sale of the machines, and represent Haulotte in the event of a non-compliance dispute.
  • Monitor regulatory opportunities all over the world, such as the Californian and Chinese regulations which, by penalizing diesel engine emissions, are favorable for our Pulseo strategy.
  • Influence standardization work by participating in various committees worldwide.
